New €430 million ski slope for Louth 'to open next year'

Proponents of a ski resort in all weather planned for the new Dundalk Co Louth hope to open the first phase next year.

Louth County Council has granted planning permission for the project to be built by developers of innovative entertainment (ILS), which claims it will be the largest facility in Europe snowflex slopes.

The project is the result of the contractor Sat Curran, 62, which says in its ski resort will eventually include Altitude of water attractions and other leisure facilities including a possible casino.

Curran believes that the project site is strategically located between two major population centers in Dublin and Belfast and says the idea came from similar projects in Dubai.

  2. Local media turned out for the announcement on Tuesday that Liberty University is sponsoring professional skier and Olympic hopeful Jay Panther. Panther, 27, from Louisville, Ky., trained at the university's Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre last fall.
