Hylomar gasket sealer

It was originally used to seal case halves ACFT (aluminum machined surfaces with no joints other than one or two wire lines) on the RR engines ACFT the Second World War, when the only other sealant is kind of shellac that dry out and leak. It is still a popular item in the current day and recipes ACFT Porsche VW engine / built. I do not know how it would be useful in other applications, or if the wording has been changed since it bougght Permatex.
